ASA CRUISING COURSES FAQS

Are these prices reasonable?

We have carefully researched prices for courses of this type offered by most of the sailing schools on the upper Chesapeake Bay. We believe that the DSC fees for these courses are the most economical choice available locally.

What should I bring with me?

You may want to bring a sleeping bag and pillow, although linens are available if needed. You should bring a bath towel and, of course, clothing appropriate for the season. Be sure to bring foul weather gear and sailing gloves. If possible, try to pack your gear in a soft duffel bag to make stowing easier. PFDs will be provided, but you are also welcome to bring your own.

Do I need this course to bareboat charter?

No. You do not need this certification to bareboat charter. However, the skills learned in the class are skills most bareboat charter agencies will ask you to demonstrate.

Do I need to know how to sail first?

Yes. You need to pass the basic keelboat certification exam before you can obtain the cruising certifications from US SAILING.
